Potted Plants as runner on harvest farm table

A Potted Plant Dream Wedding: Stephanie + Elliot

They say it’s good luck if you have rain on your wedding day – and hurricanes are no exception!  Stephanie and Elliot used potted plants in their ceremony and the reception was held at historic Brittland Manor on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Perfect for a potted plants wedding inspiration!

It lent an elegant and timeless feel with its sweeping staircase and beautiful waterfront views that weren’t phased at all by the grey skies, heavy storms, and wind.

The Day Before

On the Friday before the Big Day, we delivered some of our DIY buckets in the color palette for the wedding, for Stephanie and her friends to have some fun relaxing and getting creative! They used potted plants for their centerpieces and it could not have been more perfect!

Their finished pieces were used throughout the wedding to accent different areas of the reception as well as ceremony spaces.  A perk for us, we love being right around the corner from Brittland! It allows us to easily add multi-day services to help create a true wedding weekend experience.

The couple opted to add a small tent to cover their ceremony and had a few more photos taken under cover of the manor house’s porches, but other than that their day went off as planned!

The large ceremony florals that flanked the couple during their vows sat on tall tree stumps and included lanterns around the base of them.

Personal Pieces

Stephanie’s bouquet was a show stopper that incorporated all things terracotta and lots of fall textures. Along with their potted plants in their reception, their personal pieces matched perfectly.

Matching the bridal bouquet, the groom’s florals were such a classy addition. The flowers peeked out of the pocket square style boutonniere and popped against the green of his suit – we LOVE a non-traditional suit color!

The Reception (A Potted Plant Lover’s Dream)

Heading into the reception tent, guests were met with a perfect mix of rectangular harvest tables as well as rounds.  Each table had a similar setup of terracotta potted plants. With loose greenery woven in between and pops of coordinating autumn colors tucked in as well.

Our gold votive candles set everything off and helped add some intimate lighting to their tablescape under the cloudy skies.

Their love of nature was so evident here, and showcased their unique personalities and style!

All things considered, even the table numbers and place settings were creative – Stephanie made them out of terra cotta pots! The entire space had a welcoming feel that gave the vibe of being transported into a secret garden.

Hand Selected Florals

Stephanie’s bouquet was a true harvest showpiece that focused on the texture and variety of the season. Her largest florals were the limelight hydrangeas that had started to change color to soft terra cotta with the cooler weather approaching.

As a result of her color choices, strawflower in peach and soft pinks was another floral favorite, specialty mums including buttons and cushion mums in shades of white and ivory stood out against the other colors in the bouquet.

Specifically, cactus zinnias in hues of peach and terra cotta added a textural element in her bouquet unique from the other florals. Hypericum peach tones added a berry-like shape to the bouquet and seasonal grasses topped off the whole look. Our farm-grown eucalyptus was the main focus of the greens. It was used along with other in-season ferns and a few softer variegated greens.

Pulling in a pop of yellow that coordinated with her potted plants and the seasonal vibe. Before we cut all of the florals, we used a little solidago (also known as goldenrod) and tucked in a few lisianthus whose petals were soft ivory but had yellow centers as well. The whole bouquet was fall perfection!

Garden Clean Up: What to Do?

As the growing season winds down, it’s time to tackle one of those tasks we both dread and love—the end-of-season garden cleanup. It’s a mix of emotions, isn’t it? There’s the satisfaction of wrapping up the season and getting the garden ready for a fresh start, but there’s also the frustration of braving the cold and staring down that one corner of the garden that got completely out of hand.
