Annie & Al: A Unique Colorful Wedding

Annie and Al’s unique colorful wedding put our skills to the test but we love a challenge! Their springtime wedding at Kent Island Resort was filled with personality. Annie told us, “I need help with flowers – I have a vision in mind but have no idea how to execute it.” We love when brides come to us with a vision for their big day that we can make reality!

“I need help with flowers – I have a vision in mind but have no idea how to execute it.”

Annie and Al are a cute and fun-loving couple! We loved not just hearing their vision for the big wedding day, but also getting to know them and their love story. Annie and Al share initials: AP. They showcased their names in a beautiful heart ice sculpture at their reception! While Annie is originally from Maryland, Al is from the Poconos. They met when they worked together, first becoming acquaintances and then friends before dating. We loved seeing them so excited for their wedding day with a vision of a bold but classy event!

The springtime wedding was held at Kent Island Resort with the ceremony at the Pergola and reception in the Farmstead. Annie had seen our florals at a wedding that fall and knew she wanted similar florals for that wedding arch. The Pergola was BIG and we needed lots of flowers to decorate it! Annie and Al wanted the focus to be on the arch where they would be getting married. We wrapped greenery around the columns and full heavy florals across the top. Many spring weddings use a pastel color palette, but Annie wanted a vibrant and colorful wedding! We brought all the bold and beautiful flowers!

The arch was the focal point for the ceremony, but we added lots of other florals to the ceremony space too! As guests arrived at Annie and Al’s spring wedding, they were greeted with a custom welcome sign built especially for the couple. It was a flower box style welcome sign that we arranged on-site in the ceremony space. We filled the flower box with overflowing vibrant flowers!

In the ceremony space, there were white chairs for guests. We added touches of color to the space by tying small flower arrangements to each chair along the inner aisle. The flower bundles were brightly colored blooms going down the aisle.

Repurposing Flowers (Same Flowers, Two Spaces)

For the flowers on the pergola, we created a large oasis garland to drape across the top. (Our team nicknamed it the “oasis sausages.”) It was a huge and heavy garland that our incredible Lizzy made on site at Kent Island Resort. Despite the difficulty moving the garland, we made it happen! Annie opted to reuse the oasis garland from the ceremony for the reception space as well. The flowers were moved to the sweetheart table. It was heavy to move but we did it and it looked beautiful!

Colorful Wedding Reception

For cocktail hour, Annie and Al had a lounge area. They used furniture rentals from Pretty Little Wedding Co to offer alternative seating and traditional high top tables. For the cocktail space, we added a few florals and lots of greenery with eucalyptus. The high-top tables had eucalyptus and were wrapped with linens to add that classic touch.

The reception was in the Farmstead at Kent Island Resort. It is a gorgeous indoor venue with beautiful views of the surrounding grounds. It was great for an early spring wedding with warm temperatures! Annie’s vision of bold and classy came together for the reception with many unique touches. In addition to the rentals we provided, they also had rental items provided by Pretty Little Wedding Co. They provided fancy items like the chairs for the reception and the lacey table linens and place settings. There were a mix of rectangle and round tables for guest seating at the reception. We think this is a great way to break up the space when you have a large guest count and over 20 tables like Annie and Al did. For the tablescapes, we provided additional rentals like our votive candles and taper candles.

For florals at the reception, we used a variety of flowers and a variety of containers. The rectangle tables were decorated with our scattered vase collection. The round tables had classic floral centerpieces in our white porcelain compotes. It was a great mix of bold colors and more classic wedding decor.

Fun, Unique, and Bold!

To bring more of their fun loving and bold personalities to the reception, Annie and Al had unique activities. There was a petting zoo with lizards, turtles, and bunnies that was for the kids but excited the adult guests too! The fun surprises didn’t end there – Annie lit up the night with a flame gun! Annie and Al created a truly unique wedding to celebrate their life together!

Bouts, Bouquets, & Baskets

Providing florals for the ceremony and reception spaces was a fun challenge, but we created some more classic personals for the wedding party. Annie’s dad was SO excited to walk her down the aisle! It was so special to create Annie’s bridal bouquet and a classic boutonniere for her dad!

Annie and Al incorporated a lot of family and special friends into their day including kids. There were Jr Groomsmen that we created mini boutonnieres for as well as “ring security.” For the flower girls, we provided baskets of dried flower petals, adding even more florals to this colorful wedding day.

Annie chose vibrant wedding colors of pinks, peach, coral, and purples. We loved incorporating many different flowers in those shades like tulips, ranunculus, cress, snapdragons, iris, and dianthus. This was a colorful wedding filled with bright pinks! For Annie’s bouquet, we focused on those bold colors and added a touch of traditional white by wrapping the bouquet with fabric Annie gave us from her wedding dress! It was a great way to add even more sentimentality and tie the look together.

For Al, he wanted to keep his pocket square classic. Instead of a traditional boutonniere for the groom, we made a small arrangement for the breast pocket. We focused on using light greenery and white or cream flowers like centaura – ironically also known as bachelor button.

All the florals paired with the beautiful venue created a rustic and elegant space. Annie and Al had the unique colorful wedding of their dreams and we loved being a part of it!
