Frequently Asked Questions
How to Pick a Vase
Select a vase that is approximately half the height of your flowers. For arrangements with a heavier base, opt for a narrower vase, while a wider vase works well for top-heavy bouquets. Ensure your vase is clean before use and allow it to air dry naturally to avoid reintroducing bacteria, which can cause your flowers to deteriorate faster.
Why Trim Your Flowers
After being picked, flower stems begin to dry out. When we send flowers, they are in bud and full of stored water, but they will need a drink upon arrival. To help them hydrate effectively, cut about one inch from the bottom of the stems at a 45-degree angle. This prevents the stems from resting on the bottom of the vase and increases their surface area for better water absorption.
Remember to remove any foliage that would be submerged in water, as it can decompose quickly and create debris in the vase. For best results, use sharp scissors to cut stems, and for thicker stems like amaryllis, use a sharp knife. Blunt scissors or dull tools can crush the stems, hindering water absorption.
How Often Should You Add Water
Top up the water every other day and change it immediately if it becomes cloudy. Bacteria can accumulate in the vase, potentially clogging the stems and impeding water uptake. Remove any dead or wilting stems, clean the vase with warm, soapy water, and rinse thoroughly before refilling.
