Summer Citrus Wedding: A Backyard Party on the Bay

Backyard weddings can be such a fun departure from a structured wedding venue, especially when they are so close to our own backyard!  Leah + Kevin lucked out with his parent’s property right on the Chesapeake Bay in Rock Hall, just a few back roads away from our farm for a true eastern shore wedding.

A bright and wild summer citrus wedding fit the vibes perfectly, with a disco ball installation, circular bar, sailcloth tent, and all the fun rentals!

A round sailcloth tent covers a circular bar, next to an outdoor lounge area.

Vibrant Color Palette

What better way to incorporate a citrus wedding color palette than by having your bridesmaids choose dresses in shades of bright orange, hot pink, and sunny yellow?  Leah’s girls made a perfect selection of colors that paired beautifully with their bouquets.

The guys wore khaki suits for a neutral balance, and Kevin’s slightly-off-white suit kept everything bright and happy down the aisle!

His pocket square set him apart from the rest of the groomsmen, who had traditional style pin-on boutonnieres.  We love how the florals popped in their first look!

Welcome to the Party

It’s no secret that we love a good floral welcome sign – they’ve become even more popular as we get into this year’s wedding season and every single one of them leaves us jumping up and down when we finish and step back!  Her citrus colors popped off the clean white background, with the flowers adding the perfect touch.

A Colorful Ceremony

They had a family friend build the chuppah locally, which added just the right amount of coastal rustic appeal.  We created the floral curtain in shades of bright orange/pink, and hung it with delicate draping to one side to create a frame for their ceremony.

Across the top and other side, we added greens and palms to finish the look, then hung the fabric across the top – a triumph for a windy waterfront wedding!

We LOVE creating a little vignette for your aisle entrance!! This can be a great place to add in a little extra creativity and showcase some favorite ideas that you maybe didn’t get to use in the rest of your reception.

We tied the potted plants from her tables in with large urns full of lavender, moss, and tropical plants.  Blending these with fresh floral basket arrangements, and staging them at different heights, made for an elevated yet casual welcome to the ceremony space.

Tented Tablescapes

We definitely spent the most planning time on her tables. While we LOVE a good mix-and-match more-is-more state of mind, it can be hard to visualize and just trust the process.  Eventually, we all reached a point where we felt comfortable with the look, and we are so glad that we did!!

One table design had a combination of potted plants with bright citrus wedding color taper candles intermixed. For the second table design, we paired scattered floral vases with white tapers. The two designs combined on the head table, and overall created a light, bright, and airy design! All the tables had such an eclectic yet cohesive look, blending the summer citrus wedding color palette through plants, florals, and combinations of our candle rentals.

Garden Clean Up: What to Do?

Garden Clean Up: What to Do?

As the growing season winds down, it’s time to tackle one of those tasks we both dread and love—the end-of-season garden cleanup. It’s a mix of emotions, isn’t it? There’s the satisfaction of wrapping up the season and getting the garden ready for a fresh start, but there’s also the frustration of braving the cold and staring down that one corner of the garden that got completely out of hand.
