Episode 1: Sprouting Social Media: The Journey of a Flower Farmer

“I started out just wanting to grow flowers” – Liza

In this episode, we talk about the realities of being a flower farmer. Meaning, seeds, dirt, sun, flowers, ALL of it. So what is it that we do? We always are in the world of flowers, from the wedding side to the retail side. We’ve tackled crazy wedding days or rain and trying to make a arch stay up, to hundreds of vases being made and delivered on Mother’s Day. And along all of that, we educate. Through our daily tasks from the field to the barn (where all of the magic happens), to how we communicate with people, and setting up our weddings.

Each Floral Field

We have multiple fields that we need to have function in every day work. From the fields with seed set-up, to planning out the rotations, and planting the little baby plants. Along with so much more, we have the technical side of contracts and emails (you know the best stuff), and MY FAVORITE the floral side. We’ve designed pieces like floating wedding arches, to a garland for a cow (no really a cow… like “moo”), dog collars and just your staple wedding bouquet.  We really can do it all,  we run this machine called Wildly Native Flower Farm!

What To Expect

During special episodes, we have invited guests to come along the virtual world and talk about their fields within. From wedding venues, photographers, and to cake design, you’ll hear ALL of the information. From trends that we might not always agree with and what might be upcoming. With our guests you get to hear what we normally talk about to each other, or what you didn’t think to ask. We are here to inform and educate on the industry and also just to have fun! We have so much information to share and we want everyone to have the chance to listen in.

Now for the big topic… COVID

Did it help us? Yes. More than we thought, covid honestly showed us how to work in an environment that was unknown to us before. During that crazy time, we ended up being one of the only open and running floral shops in town. Which gave us a leg up in early spring holiday orders. The rest is explained in this episode, so listen in!

Specialty Growth

On the farm, our flowers have jobs. From weddings, dried petals, to edible florals that can be used in food, to our salt soaks, flowers can do practically everything! Not everyone gets to hear and see the explanations of what we do with them. And honestly? Get to understand the safety of them. We grow poisonous flowers?! Yes we do, and we’ve learned how to use them correctly.

A question you’ll hear at the end of our first episode and guest episodes:

“If you were a flower, what would you be?”
